Documents for drivers from Kyrgyzstan to Poland

Poland is the EU's largest international haulage market and often the first country for drivers from the CIS. Citizens of Armenia, Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine use the simplified employer declaration procedure (oświadczenie); everyone else needs a type A work permit from the voivode.

Your case: Kyrgyzstan → Poland

The employer obtains a type A work permit for you at the voivodeship office (usually 1–3 months). With it you apply for a national visa D at the Polish consulate. After arrival you can apply for the karta pobytu (residence card) with the right to work.

Driver jobs: Poland

Steps in order

  1. Work permit or oświadczenie
For citizens of AM, BY, MD, UA the employer registers the “declaration on entrusting work to a foreigner” at the poviat labour office (fast, a few days). For everyone else: type A permit from the voivode. Since December 2025 a new act on employing foreigners applies; applications are filed electronically via praca.gov.pl.
  2. National visa D
Applied for at the Polish consulate at your place of residence via e-Konsulat: passport, permit or oświadczenie, contract or offer, €30,000 insurance, photo, fee about €80. In many countries appointments take weeks.
  3. Licence, Code 95 and świadectwo kierowcy
Non-EU licences must be exchanged within 180 days of residence; without a mutual recognition agreement a theory test is required. Code 95 is obtained via kwalifikacja wstępna przyspieszona (140 hours, exam), then the driver card. For international trips the employer obtains the świadectwo kierowcy (driver attestation) for you from GITD.
  4. Medical and psychological examination
Mandatory for all professional drivers in Poland, paid by the employer. Without the certificates you can neither work nor obtain Code 95.
  5. After arrival
PESEL number at the municipality, ZUS registration via the employer (NFZ health insurance applies from then on), bank account. For work longer than a year: apply for the karta pobytu at the voivodeship office while the visa is still valid.

Who pays what

The employer pays: the permit or oświadczenie fee, examinations, Code 95 training and driver card, świadectwo kierowcy, first housing. The worker: translations, trip to the consulate, visa fee, insurance until work starts. Beware of B2B offers instead of an employment contract: since 2026 the labour inspectorate (PIP) reclassifies such contracts.
